The Chickasaw's

The Chickasaw's today are one of the most economically thriving tribes in the United States. But, the land they currently reside on wasn't where their story originally started. The Chickasaw tribe originated in the area around Mississippi, with a first contact of Europeans in 1540. The Chickasaws live in sophisticated towns with highly developed rules with laws and religion. They lived an agrarian lifestyle and were quick to go to a battle if needed for survival. They sided with England in the French and Indian War and some say they are one of the main reasons that England still had their colonies following the war. Everything seemed to be going well for the tribe however, once the Indian Removal Act came into effect, things started to go downward.

Out of the estimated 6,000 Chickasaw who travelled on the Trail of Tears, only 3,000 survived. Through this, the Chickasaw were devastated with little resources. However, leading up to and during the Civil War, the Chickasaw slowly rebuilt. All of this would slow down during the reallotment period. However, following the Acts passed in the 1970s, the Chickasaw Nation would then be allowed to pick their own officers' again. And with the new Constitution made, the Chickasaw's promptly started on building new economic plans. These plans have hugely paid off and the Chickasaw tribe is one of the most economically developed Tribal Nations.
